Crazy Days

Published by momjessie82 at 1:04 am under Uncategorized Edit This

It has been crazy around here. I have not had much time to get on here and write this blog like I planned on. The last 3 weeks have just been absolutely packed with events and life in general. First, my brussels griffon dog was pregnant. She was getting very sick and seemed to be having a lot of problems with the pregnancy. Then, she never delivered. She acted like she was in labor for several days. I finally made her an appt at the vet to see what they thought. At about 11:30 that morning, I got a call from the school. They told me that my 6 year old had hurt his foot at recess. They had iced it, but the swelling would not go down and he would not walk on it. They wanted me to go look at it and see what I thought. So, I pack up my 2 year old and go up to the school. I am no doctor, but it looked broken to me. I told the secretary that I was going to go ahead and take him with me and get it looked at. So, I run back home and get the dog because I still have to take her to the vet. We go to the vet and they tell me that if she does not have the puppies by the next morning I need to bring her back in and they will do a c-section.

Then, I head to the ER with my son. They take 8 different x-ray views of his foot. Then, the doctor comes in to tell me that he broke the 4th metacarpal of his left foot. He was standing up on the very top of the monkey bars at school, walking across, and fell off. They put him in a splint because of the swelling and told me to take him to see the orthopedic doctor early the next week. So, he got crutches and absolutely hated them from the very beginning. Having ADHD, he is so full of energy and has such a hard time concentrating, that he couldn’t stand having to use the crutches. It took him 4 or 5 days to get used to them.

The next day we still had no puppies, so I took my dog into the vet again for her c-section. I don’t know if you know what a brussels griffon is, but they are small dogs. She had 6 puppies inside her. They were all sick when they were born and the vet found out that she had toxemia and that isĀ  why she was acting so bad. They got all the puppies out and told me not to get my hopes up for any of them because they were sick. It took them a long time to come around and perk up, but they were all doing pretty good by the time we left the vet. When we got home, I tried to put them in with their mom and she flat out refused them and was scared of them. The vet had given me replacement milk to supplement them until mom’s milk came in. I started hand feeding them and kept putting them with the mom trying to get her to accept them. She continued to want nothing to do with them. No matter what I tried, it didn’t matter. So, I was feeding puppies every 2 hours around the clock. We lost 2 the first night. The next day we lost another one, and lost the other 2 that night. It was very disheartening.

The next week I was diagnosed with diabetes. I had 10 different lab tests done checking for all kinds of stuff and monitoring sugars, etc. I had been sick for several months and could not get the doctors to listen to me. Now, I am on medication and they are talking about possibly being on insulin shots very soon. I have terrible diabetic nerve pain in my legs and feet. It drives me nuts because nothing that I do helps it. So, I am trying to adjust to a diabetic lifestyle.

My son, Brayden, went back to see the orthopedist yesterday and got switched from his splint to a walking boot and off the crutches. He will be in the boot for at least a month. Then, they are going to re x-ray the foot and see if it is all healed up. I am hoping for the best.

So, my last few weeks have been very crazy. I am hoping for some calm and peace. I could use a little break at least.
